The Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force in May 2018. The GDPR only applies to personal information, ie, information about identifiable living individuals and to anyone who processes, stores or is the subject of personal data.

You can read our Data Protection policy here.

Elton Church of England Primary School takes its responsibility under data protection regulations seriously, ensuring that we meet and comply with our obligations in the use of, processing and holding of personal data. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and use Cambridgeshire Local Authority for support and advice with GDPR.

Information for parents

We need to hold personal information about your child on our Management Information System and in paper records, in order to help us with their educational needs. The Headteacher is responsible for their accuracy and safe-keeping. Please help to keep your child’s records up to date by informing us of any change of circumstances.

The school staff have access to your child’s records to enable them to do their jobs. From time to time information may be shared with others involved in your child’s care, if it is necessary. Anyone with access to your child’s records is properly trained in confidentiality issues and is governed by a legal duty to keep their details secure, accurate and up to date. All information about your child is held securely and appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent accidental loss.

In some circumstances we may be required by law to release your child’s details to statutory or other official bodies, for example, Children's Services, if a court order is presented, or in the case of public educational issues. In other circumstances you may be required to give written consent before information is released – such as with specialist teaching support services. To ensure your child’s privacy, we will not disclose information over the telephone or via email unless we are sure that we are talking to you - the parent/carer. Information will not be disclosed to family and friends unless we have your prior written consent.  You will be asked to complete a consent form when your child starts school regarding aspects of sharing their data.  Please ask us if you need any help or have any questions before signing this.

As per statutory requirements, please accept this statement as formal notification that we neither hold nor process any biometric data at this school.
